YEAR 10 HEALTH & PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Year 10 Health & Physical Education covers multiple disciplines including Outdoor Education, Physical Education and Sport and Recreation. Outdoor Education is a practical subject offering students the opportunities to experience enjoyable and challenging introductory activities in the outdoor environment. It emphasises personal development and fosters qualities such as independence, collaboration and self-reliance. Physical Education 1 is a practical based subject that offers students the opportunity to participate and develop skills in a range of sporting activities. It emphasises personal development, well-being, independence and self-reliance. Sport and Recreation is a practical based subject that offers students the opportunity to participate and develop skills in a range of activities. STAGE 1 HEALTH & PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Stage 1 Health & Physical Education covers multiple disciplines including Health, Outdoor Education, Outdoor Pursuits, Physical Education, Physical Recreation Studies and Sport Studies. Health 1 is a theory based course which is designed to promote healthy lifestyles and behaviours. It focuses on personal development and well-being as well as independence and self-reliance. Outdoor Education is a practical subject offering students the opportunity to experience enjoyable and challenging activities in the outdoor environment. It emphasises personal development of students’ outdoor educational skills and fosters qualities such as independence, self-reliance and minimum environmental impact practices. Outdoor Pursuits is a practical subject offering students the opportunity to experience enjoyable and challenging activities in the outdoor environment. It further enhances the personal development of students’ outdoor educational skills and fosters qualities such as independence and self-reliance. Physical Education offers students the opportunity to develop and improve their sports skills in a range of individual and team activities. It also seeks to develop knowledge and understanding of body systems and fitness. Physical Education is useful as a preparation for those students wishing to study Stage 2 Physical Education. Physical Recreation Studies allows students to participate in a variety of recreational activities as well as examining topics related to leisure and recreation and the history of sport/recreation in Australia. Sport Studies offers students the opportunity to develop and improve their sports skills in a range of activities. STAGE 2 HEALTH & PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Stage 2 Health & Physical Education covers multiple disciplines including Outdoor Education and Sport Studies. Outdoor Education provides students with a challenge to improve their personal development through direct interaction with the outdoors. Students will undertake two practical activities and study them in depth, as well as participating in a number of expeditions. Students need to contribute a significant amount of their own time. In Physical Education students gain an understanding of human functioning, physical activity, an awareness of the community structures and practices that influence participation in physical activity. Students explore their own physical capacities and analyse performance, health and lifestyle issues. They develop skills in communication, investigation and the ability to apply knowledge to practical situations. Stage 2 is designed to meet the needs of students who enjoy participating in a range of sport and practical activities.
