Innovative Pathways Through the UniStart Program

Casuarina Senior College has launched into the 2026 school year with energy, focus and a clear sense of purpose, as students return to classrooms ready to embrace new opportunities and set ambitious goals for the months ahead.

From the first day of term, students have settled quickly back into routine, reconnecting with peers and engaging positively in their studies. Teachers have praised the strong work ethic and maturity already on display, with many students demonstrating a clear commitment to achieving their Northern Territory Certificate of Education and Training (NTCET).

UniStart is already well underway

A highlight of the year so far has been the commencement of UniStart in partnership with Charles Darwin University. The innovative program provides selected students with the opportunity to begin university study while still completing their senior secondary education, allowing them to gain credits toward both their NTCET and future tertiary qualifications.

Preparation for UniStart is already well underway. Students have completed an online session introducing them to university expectations and systems, followed by an orientation day on campus. During the visit, they were formally welcomed by Kim Caudwell, Associate Dean – Research and Research Training, who encouraged students to see themselves as capable and confident future university learners.

Preparing Students for the Future

Angela Sheedy and the Health Science team then guided students through key learning areas, including the simulation nursing laboratories and the Health Hub in the Garrwa building, giving them a firsthand look at the facilities they will soon be using when university classes commence in March.

The enthusiasm among students has been evident. Many are eager to experience university life, gain valuable credits and build momentum toward their long-term career aspirations. With strong routines established and exciting pathways opening up, 2026 is shaping up to be a year defined by hard work, opportunity and success.

Flexible Pathways for Every Student

UniStart is one of several pathways available at CSC, which is the Territory’s only dedicated senior secondary school in the Top End .

The college offers a wide range of academic subjects alongside strong Vocational Education and Training (VET) options, allowing students to blend theory and practical experience.

This flexibility ensures every student can pursue a pathway that matches their goals — whether that’s university study, employment, or further training .

CSC Students Shine in National History Challenge

Excellence in History and Humanities

Once again, Casuarina Senior College has demonstrated why it is the premier school in the Northern Territory for Senior History and Humanities.

The National History Challenge is an inquiry-based competition where students investigate a theme through research and analysis. This year’s theme, “Conflict and Resolution,” encouraged participants to explore historical issues and their broader implications.

Both Stage 1 and Stage 2 Modern History classes took part, showcasing the strong engagement and curiosity of CSC’s young historians.

Outstanding Student Achievements

Five CSC students reached the finals: Anabelle, Sarah Pagsanjan, Andreana Acuna, Kaitlin Barker, and Eryx Monsanto .

Innovative Pathways Through the UniStart Program

Casuarina Senior College (CSC) is reaffirming its place as the Top End’s leading senior secondary school with the launch of UniStart , a new academic pathway developed in partnership with Charles Darwin University (CDU) .

Beginning in 2026 , UniStart will allow CSC students to complete up to two first-year university units while still at school, giving them a valuable head start toward higher education and future careers.

Focusing on Northern Territory Growth Areas

The program will launch with five units in health-related fields , addressing the Territory’s growing need for skilled professionals.

In the coming years, UniStart will expand to include education and the arts , creating even more opportunities for students across diverse fields.
