Course Description

Semester 1

Students study the following areas: rational and irrational numbers with fractional indices, logarithms and log laws, quadratics, hyperbolas, monic and non-monic quadratic expressions, polynomials and problem solving.

This course also covers circle theorems, exponentials, exponential functions, non-right trigonometry and periodic phenomenon.

Semester 2 (this course must be studied in conjunction with Cross Disciplinary Mathematics Pre Methods A)

Students undertake studies of polynomials and apply remainder theorem.

In Pure Maths students are required to describe, interpret and sketch parabolas, hyperbolas, circle and exponentials and their transposition.

Students also learn about factorising monic and non-monic quadratic expressions and solve a wide range of quadratic equations.

Students also look at statistics and probabilities using technology for bivariate data sets.

Finally, students look at doing proofs and apply angle and chord properties of circles.

A TI84 graphic calculator is required for this course.
