Centre for Excellence students at the Science and Engineering Challenge

The Centre for Excellence students triumphed at this year’s Science and Engineering Challenge, coming second place overall.

The event, presented by Engineers Australia and hosted by CDU, provided our students with challenges such as building a bionic hand from drinking straws and paper towers to withstand earthquakes. Our students showed fantastic teamwork and problem solving skills, and injected a sense of fun into the day for everyone to enjoy.

The event culminated in the famed ‘bridge test’, where bridges designed and built by the students were tested under an increasing series of weights. The CSC bridge, nicknamed Stephen by the students,  outshone the competition by far. ‘Stephen’, built by Emily Moxom, Kayla Hargrave, Ayden Nankervis and Georgios Machinis,  easily withstood the pressure right up to the final round where it finally succumbed to the 10kg ‘Bridge-buster’.

Great fun was had by all and CSC couldn’t ask for a better group of young scientists and engineers to showcase what we have to offer. Good job team!
