Paddling for a Cleaner Ocean - Mathilde Gordan, Casuarina Senior College Alumni 2011

2011 CSC Alumni, Mathilde Gordan, accompanied by her friend, Lucy Graham, will be embarking on an incredible journey in May, 2018. Together, these women will be Kayaking from Muir glacier, Alaska to Vancouver Island, Canada, to raise awareness about marine debris and how it is affecting our oceans worldwide. These young women will tackle 2103 kilometres and will take approximately three months. The aim of this trip is to raise $20,000 for the Tangaroa Blue Foundation and the Living Oceans Society, both organisations, who are committed to the removal of rubbish from our ocean.

Mathilde was a student at Casuarina Senior College from 2009 to 2011 where she developed inspiration from her science teachers to pursue studying Zoology and Ecology at James Cook University and follow a career in environmental conservation.

“For Lucy, having done various multi-day paddles before, kayaking the Inside Passage has been a life-long dream. For Mathilde, who has had little kayaking experience, this is an exciting leap out of her comfort zone. We want to experience new places, take on the elements, connect with nature, challenge ourselves and have fun!”
