Course Description

Community Studies provides students with insights into the ways in which communities are shaped and operate. This course offers students the opportunity to learn in a community context, both within and beyond the school environment. The community provides the framework in which students develop capabilities that enable them to contribute actively and successfully to community activities. In interacting with teachers, peers, and community members, students use their experiences as a means of achieving personal growth and gaining an awareness of social identity.

An identifying feature of this course is the independence it gives students in deciding the focus and direction of their community activity/community application activity. Students expand and enhance their skills and understanding in a guided and supported learning program, by beginning from a point of personal interest, skill, or knowledge, and setting challenging and achievable goals.
