Course Description
French Beginners is a language course designed for students who have little or no previous knowledge of the language.
Students develop their knowledge and understanding of spoken and written French in order to communicate meaningfully with people across cultures.
This involves speaking, listening, reading and writing in French and English about topics relevant to France and Australia.
Students study the modern standard version of French, as spoken in France.
In this course students may also encounter variations of the language spoken in other francophone countries. Students should be aware of different levels of language, for example, formal and informal.
This includes the use of colloquialisms where they are appropriate and an awareness of regional differences.
Therefore, students develop an understanding, not only of the French language and its forms, but also of how culture and identity are expressed through language.
