Course Description
Medieval Studies bridges the gap between Ancient Studies and Modern History, exploring some of the key themes, issues, events and individuals in the Middle Ages and early modern era between the years 500CE to 1750CE, in Europe and around the world.
Topics are developed to promote student engagement in this mysterious era of world history, in areas such as feudalism, politics and government, conflict, religion, daily life, art and early global exploration.
Events that may be explored include the Crusades, the Black Death, the Spanish Inquisition and the Renaissance.
Students learn about how empires, including the Vikings, Mongols, Byzantine and the Holy Roman Empire shaped the medieval world, and examine the reigns of key political leaders such as Genghis Kahn, Charlemagne, Montezuma, Henry V and Elizabeth I.
