Course Description
Community Studies provides students with insights into the ways in which communities are shaped and operate.
This course offers students the opportunity to learn in a community context, both within and beyond the school environment.
In developing their own individual program, students have the opportunity to select from the following six areas of study:
- Arts and the Community
- Communication and the Community
- Foods and the Community
- Health, Recreation, and the Community
- Science, Technology, and the Community
- Work and the Community
An identifying feature of this subject is the independence it gives students in deciding the focus and direction of their community activity/community application activity.
Students expand and enhance their skills and understanding in a guided and supported learning program, by beginning from a point of personal interest, skill, or knowledge, and setting challenging and achievable goals.
