Course Description

Community Studies provides students with insights into the ways in which communities are shaped and operate. It offers students the opportunity to learn in a community context, both within and beyond the school environment.

In developing their own individual program, students have the opportunity to select from the following six areas of study:

Arts and the Community
Communication and the Community
Foods and the Community
Health, Recreation, and the Community
Science, Technology, and the Community
Work and the Community.

An identifying feature of this subject is the independence it gives students in deciding the focus and direction of their community activity/community application activity. Students expand and enhance their skills and understanding in a guided and supported learning program, by beginning from a point of personal interest, skill, or knowledge, and setting challenging and achievable goals.
