NTCET
At Casuarina Senior College (CSC), students work towards the Northern Territory Certificate of Education and Training (NTCET), a nationally recognised qualification that prepares you for university, training, or work after school.
The NTCET is typically completed over two years of full-time study, though most students spread their learning across
three years to give themselves more flexibility and success.
The Two Stages of the NTCET
Stage 1 – Building the Foundation
At CSC, you can get an early start on Stage 1 during
Year 10, then continue through
Year 11.
Stage 1 subjects help you build strong skills in communication, problem-solving, and independent learning, all vital for your senior years.
Stage 2 – Completing Your NTCET
Most students complete Stage 2 in Year 12.
These subjects are typically more advanced and count towards your
ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank) if you’re planning to enter university.
Earning Credits
Every subject or course you complete successfully earns
NTCET credits.
To gain the certificate, you’ll need
at least 200 credits in total.
Each subject is graded from
A to E, and for compulsory subjects, you’ll need to achieve a C grade or higher.
Compulsory Subjects
| Subject | Credits | Stage |
|---|---|---|
| Exploring Identities and Futures (EIF) | 10 | Stage 1 |
| English | At least 20 | Stage 1 |
| Mathematics | At least 10 | Stage 1 |
| Other Stage 2 subjects | At least 60 | Stage 2 |
You’ll then complete an additional 100 credits through other Stage 1 or Stage 2 subjects, VET (Vocational Education and Training), or SACE Board-recognised courses.
Pathways and Planning at CSC
Most CSC students complete:
EIF (10 credits)
Five 20-credit Stage 2 subjects
This structure provides flexibility for meeting university prerequisites and personal goals.
Full-time students generally study five subjects per semester at Stage 1, regardless of credits already earned, allowing them to explore a wide range of learning areas before specialising in Year 12.
Some subjects require successful completion of 10 or 20 credits at Stage 1 to continue at Stage 2, so your
subject choices in Year 11 are important for keeping your options open.
How You’ll Be Assessed
Stage 1
Assessment (Year 11)
Assessments follow NTCET (SACE) Board guidelines and are graded A to E.
You’ll receive reports via the Compass portal, where you and your parents can track your progress.

We also hold Parent–Teacher–Student meetings throughout the year, giving you the chance to discuss achievements and goals with your teachers and coordinators.
Stage 2
Assessment (Year 12)
Assessments are graded A+ to E- under NTCET (SACE) standards.
Parents and students receive regular online reports and progress updates via Compass.
At the end of Year 12, you’ll receive your official results, including final grades, ATAR (if applicable), and certificates, directly from the NTCET (SACE) Board.
NTCET Requirements Summary
To qualify for the NTCET, students must:
Achieve a grade of A, B, or C in all compulsory subjects
Achieve a grade of A, B, or C in at least 140 of the total 200 credits
