Year 11

A New Beginning with Real Opportunities

Whether you’re continuing from Year 10 or joining Casuarina Senior College (CSC) for the first time, you’ll be in great company. Many students are new at this stage, creating a welcoming, inclusive environment for everyone to start fresh and embrace new opportunities.

Year 11 marks the beginning of your senior journey where learning becomes more independent, focused, and tailored to your future goals.

Supporting Your Transition

At CSC, we support your move into a tertiary-style learning environment that helps you adapt, build confidence and thrive, no matter your background.

You’ll experience more independence and flexibility while still having guidance from dedicated teachers who understand what it takes to succeed.

Learning that Goes Deeper

Each subject includes three 80-minute lessons per week, longer than the typical secondary school format.

This structure allows you to explore topics in greater depth, engage in hands-on learning, and apply your knowledge in meaningful ways.

Our school day runs from 8:30am to around 3:00pm, depending on your personalised timetable and study periods.

Building Strong Study Skills

Beyond your scheduled classes, you’ll develop essential skills like time management, self-motivation, and organisation.
You’ll spend time working independently, either at home or in our
Resource Centre, to strengthen your study habits and prepare for the demands of senior assessment and future study.

Subjects and Pathways

Stage 1 Subjects

Most students take five subjects per semester during Stage 1.

Your exact combination may vary depending on whether you choose to include VET (Vocational Education and Training) or start a Stage 2 subject early.

Full-Year and Semester Units

Some subjects, including Mathematical Methods, Specialist Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry, must be studied across both semesters, as they are prerequisites for Stage 2 courses.

Many other Year 11 subjects are offered as single-semester units, giving you the flexibility to:

  • Explore new areas of interest
  • Continue subjects you enjoyed in Year 10
  • Build confidence before committing to advanced Year 12 study

Preparing for Assessment

To help you build confidence for Year 12, you’ll sit formal examinations each semester in subjects that lead to final exams the following year.

These experiences are a key part of our academic program, helping you strengthen your understanding and prepare for the rigour of NTCET assessments.

Planning Your Path Forward

We’ll help you shape a pathway that matches your ambitions. Whether your goal is university, TAFE, or employment, our teachers and careers team will guide you in selecting the right subjects and opportunities to get there.
