Stage 1 Japanese introduction is for students with little or no prior knowledge of Japanese. It builds basic communication skills and cultural understanding, preparing students for Stage 1 Japanese Part 2 and cultural exchange programs with Hadano high school in Japan and future opportunities in international business, tourism, diplomacy, education, and multicultural engagement.

In Japanese introduction, students will develop macro skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) in basic Japanese and culinary experiences and becoming an intercultural language speaker. Through various topics such as knowledge of Japanese 3 writing systems (Hiragana and Katakana and Kanji), personal identity, festivals, shopping and food, students will explore language structures and cultural practices while building confidence in using the language in meaningful ways.

It is recommended that students successfully complete at least 1 semester of Stage 1 Japanese or equivalent if they wish to enrol in Stage 1 Part 2 Japanese in 2nd semester.
