Course Overview

Outdoor education pathways typically involve a combination of practical outdoor experiences, theoretical knowledge, and skill development, often leading to further studies or careers in outdoor recreation, environmental science, or related fields. These pathways emphasise experiential learning and the development of essential life skills like teamwork, leadership, and resilience through engaging with the natural world.

Through experiential learning and the study of three focus areas — conservation and sustainability; human connections with nature; and personal and social growth and development — students develop skills, knowledge, and understanding of safe and sustainable outdoor experiences in the key areas of preparation and planning, managing risk, leadership and decision-making, and self-reliance skills.

It is recommended that students successfully complete at least 1 semester of Stage 1 Outdoor Education if they wish to enrol in Stage 2 Outdoor Education.
