Course Overview

Pre-Essential Mathematics builds students’ mathematics skills and knowledge to equip them for success in Stage 1 Essential Mathematics in year 11, which can prepare students for vocational or trade pathways. Successful completion of two semesters of Stage 1 Essential Mathematics in year 11 can allow students to progress to Stage 2 Essential Mathematics in year 12, and is an ATAR pathway.


This year 10 course builds skills in measurement, geometry, problem solving and statistics. The course is written to comply with the SACE Stage 1 Cross Disciplinary Studies Learning Subject Outline.


All year 10 students must complete two semesters of mathematics.
