Course Overview
In Stage 1 Ancient History students learn about the history, literature, society and culture of ancient societies and would be suitable for students pursuing careers in education, archaeology, conservation, heritage and any other career where critical thinking and problem-solving skills are required. This pathway will help prepare students for Stage 2 Ancient History and other humanities subjects.

Stage 1 Ancient History develops investigative skills with students communicating their own interpretations and arguments based on archaeological and historical sources. Students make connections between the ancient and modern world to recognise the influence of the past on today’s culture.
Students study a variety of topics including ancient warfare, art, everyday life, religion, mythology and literature. They also explore the issues surrounding the management of historical sites and the ethics surrounding the ownership of artefacts.
It is recommended that students successfully complete at least 1 semester of Stage 1 Ancient History if they wish to enrol in Stage 2 Ancient History.
