Course Overview
In Stage 2 Ancient History draws on many other fields of study to explore ancient societies and would be suitable for students pursuing careers in education, archaeology, conservation, heritage and any other career where critical thinking and problem-solving skills are required. This pathway will help prepare students for work or university studies.

Stage 2 Ancient History focuses on ideas and innovations from the ancient world and their influence on today’s society. Students will develop their investigative and research skills by examining a range of archaeological, historical and literary sources to form their own interpretations and arguments.
Students study a variety of topics including daily life, military conflict, political power, religion, material culture and ancient literature. They also explore key concepts such as citizenship, democracy, the use and abuse of power and ethics.
It is recommended that students successfully complete at least 1 semester of Stage 1 Ancient History if they wish to enrol in Stage 2 Ancient History.
