Course Overview

Child Studies is designed for students interested in careers or further study in early childhood education, health, social work, or community services. It provides a strong foundation in child development and care, preparing students to work with young children in both professional and community settings.

Students explore how children grow and learn from preconception to age 8, with a focus on physical, emotional, social, and cognitive development. Key areas include healthy eating and food preparation for young children, physical literacy, early reading and numeracy, and using play to teach science and maths. Students also learn about pregnancy and the trimesters and engage with local primary schools to apply their knowledge in real-world settings.
