Course Overview

Child Studies is ideal for students interested in working with children or pursuing further study in areas such as early childhood education, healthcare, social work, or community services. It provides a strong foundation for careers that involve supporting the development and wellbeing of young children.

Students learn about child development from birth to 8 years, including the importance of play, safety, inclusivity, and diverse needs. Key topics include premature birth outcomes, toy safety, diverse learners and cultural diversity. Practical components include working with local early years settings and specialised primary schools, creating developmentally appropriate toys, and delivering multicultural activities.

It is recommended that students successfully complete at least 1 semester of Stage 1 Child Studies if they wish to enrol in Stage 2 Child Studies in year 11 or 12.
