Course Overview

The Stage 1 Health and Wellbeing course provides students with foundational knowledge and skills to understand and influence health and wellbeing in various contexts. This subject prepares students for future studies and careers in health sciences, social work, community services, and related fields by fostering critical thinking, ethical understanding, and practical skills necessary for promoting positive health outcomes.


Students will develop competencies in health literacy, understanding health determinants, promoting health, and advocating for social equity. The course focuses on critical and creative thinking, personal and social capability, and ethical understanding. Students will engage in activities that enhance their ability to analyse health trends, make informed decisions, and take action to improve health and wellbeing at individual, community, and global levels.


It is recommended that students successfully complete at least one semester of Stage 1 Health and Wellbeing if they wish to enrol in Stage 2 Health and Wellbeing in year 11 or 12.
