Course Overview

Students will develop their knowledge and understanding of the Japanese language and culture. This will involve speaking, listening, reading, and writing in Japanese and English about topics relevant to Japan and Australia. Students will be able to develop their intercultural understanding and sensitivity which is an essential component to live in multicultural society, Australia.


Specific focus topics will be chosen from those broad topics:

  • The Individual
  • Japanese Speaking Communities
  • The Changing World


It is recommended that students successfully complete at least 2 semesters of Stage 1 Japanese or Stage 1 Part 4 equivalent if they wish to enrol in Stage 2 Japanese in year 11 or 12.
