Course Overview
Stage 2 Chinese (Beginners) is designed for students with little or no prior knowledge of Chinese who have successfully completed at least one semester of Stage 1 Chinese (Beginners). It prepares students to communicate meaningfully in familiar and some unfamiliar contexts, and supports pathways into further language study, international engagement, or careers in areas such as tourism, business, education, or diplomacy.
Students continue to develop their skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in Mandarin, with an increased emphasis on fluency, accuracy, and comprehension. They explore personal, social, and community topics through a variety of texts and interactions, while building intercultural awareness and understanding. Key areas of focus include exchanging information, expressing opinions, and responding to written and spoken Chinese in everyday and transactional situations.
Through a range of assessments—including oral, written, and interaction tasks—students apply their learning in real-world contexts, strengthening both their communication skills and cultural competence.
