Course Overview

Stage 2 Geography prepares students for careers in urban planning, environmental management, disaster and climate resilience, education and research, travel and tourism. It builds lifelong skills in spatial thinking, critical thinking, data analysis, and problem solving.

Stage 2 Geography builds on the skills developed in Stage 1 to prepare students to be informed, responsible global citizens ready to help shape a better future. Geography is the study of the connections between people, places, and the environment. By studying Geography students will learn to see the world from multiple perspectives; social, economic, and environmental. Geography combines both humanities and science skills and encourages students to ask important questions, investigate data, and use tools like maps, satellite images, and digital technologies. Fieldwork is a key part of Geography. It helps students learn through direct observation and experience.

It is recommended that students have successfully completed at least one semester of Stage 1 Geography if they wish to enrol in Stage 2 Geography in year 11 or 12.
