Course Overview

Stage 2 Arts gives students the opportunity to investigate and develop skills in an area of arts relevant to their interests. This may be linked to skills explored in a Stage 1 Creative Arts or Visual Arts course; however, this is not a prerequisite. Stage 2 Arts is a subject designed to cater for students who have an interest in pursuing a pathway into university, and to work in the arts sector. Students are expected to work independently, developing their ideas into well designed finished practical art works. Projects for example may explore painting, drawing, ceramics, sculpture and mixed media works.

Areas of focus include conceptual and practical aspects of the arts. Students study a range of topics including past and present practitioners, their styles, techniques, methods and influences. Students develop a range of transferable skills in the arts such as creative and critical thinking, problem solving and analytical skills.

It is recommended that students successfully complete at least 1 semester of Stage 1 Art if they wish to enrol in Stage 2 Arts.
