Course Overview
General Mathematics caters to students who are stronger in Mathematics but who may not wish to pursue a pathway focused on mathematics or sciences. Business, accounting, and some trades require the skills in problem solving and critical thinking and the mathematical knowledge this course provides.
This year 10 course allows students to develop their basic algebra and problem solving skills. It gives students a strong foundation in trigonometry, geometry, measurement, financial mathematics and statistics, positioning them for success in Stage 1 and Stage 2 General Mathematics. There is a strong focus on mathematics in real world contexts, with the opportunity to investigate and report on an application of mathematics to a realworld problem. The course is written to comply with the SACE Stage 1 Cross Disciplinary Studies Learning Subject Outline.
All year 10 students must complete two semesters of mathematics.
