Course Overview
General Mathematics caters to students who are stronger in Mathematics but who may not wish to pursue a pathway focused on mathematics or sciences. Business, accounting, and some trades require the skills in problem solving and critical thinking and the mathematical knowledge this course provides.
This year 11 course allows students to develop their critical thinking and problem solving skills, applying these to trigonometry, geometry, measurement, networks, financial mathematics and statistics, positioning them for success in Stage 2 General Mathematics. There is a strong focus on mathematics in real world contexts, with the opportunity to investigate and report on an application of mathematics to a real-world problem. The course follows the SACE Stage 1 General Mathematics Subject Outline.
All year 11 students must successfully complete one semester of mathematics.
