Course Overview
Mathematical Methods and Specialist Mathematics cater to students who show strong aptitude or interest in Mathematics, and who may require these as prerequisites for further study. Mathematical Methods is a prerequisite or highly recommended for a range of tertiary studies including engineering, science, and mathematics.
This year 10 course allows students with strong skills in mathematics to develop the algebraic, critical thinking, problem solving, and mathematical skills they require for success in Stage 1 and 2 Methods and Stage 2 Specialist Mathematics. Pre-Methods Mathematics gives students a strong foundation in algebra, linear and non linear functions, logarithms and further trigonometry. Students are given the opportunity to develop their skills in self-guided mathematical investigations. The course is written to comply with the SACE Stage 1 Cross Disciplinary Studies Learning Subject Outline.
All year 10 students must complete two semesters of mathematics.
